2023 Benedict XVI Institute Writing Fellow
Announcing the Benedict XVI Teen Writing Fellow
Catholic Literary Arts announces a ground-breaking program with the Benedict XVI Institute for Sacred Music and Divine Worship: the Benedict XVI Institute Teen Writing Fellow Program.
This innovative fellowship will be awarded to a high school writing student based on a writing portfolio judged by Benedict XVI writer-in-residence, James Matthew Wilson, Ph.D.
Collaboration between CLA and the Benedict XVI Institute on this program allows both organizations to work in the present to affect the future. This new honor will acknowledge the efforts of a promising young writer and encourage that writer to continue according to the highest standards of craft while also growing into the role of an artist as defined and elaborated by Pope Benedict XVI's Letter to Artists (2009).
Eligibility is based upon enrollment in the High School Writers Institute, June 12-16, 2023, University of St. Thomas, June 12-16, 2023. The faculty of the High School Writers Institute will nominate students based on the contents of a writing portfolio produced for the HSWI (see dates above).
This fellowship allows both institutions to bring to national prominence a young writer working in the great literary and intellectual traditions of Christendom. This fellow will be introduced to the worldwide Benedict XVI Institute's virtual audience. In addition, this fellow will be offered publication opportunities. He or she will also receive full scholarships to the 2023-24 Catholic Literary Arts' Teen Writing Mentorship Program, and the High School Writers Institute in June 2024. This young fellowship winner will be among the leaders of the next generation of the Catholic Cultural Revival.
