Join Sarah Cortez for “Falling in Love with Poetry & Writing It”
Tuesday, July 18, July 25 and August 1, 2023, 7:00 p.m. CST, Virtual Class
Poetry is the language of the soul, of the heart. Yet its mechanisms of language and image are understandable and (usually) decipherable. Take this class to become more comfortable reading poetry, understanding it, and writing it too! We will look at classic examples and discuss them. Then we’ll launch into writing our own lyric poems. Our limited enrollment will facilitate ease in asking questions and ease in answering them.
Whether you are a reader of poetry, or a poet who needs to once again fall in love with poetry, or a confirmed prose writer, this class will open your creative "eyes" to the wonder and joy of well-crafted poetry, thus widening your creative vision.
Our guide in this process will be selected texts from Edward Hirsch's How to Read a Poem and Fall in Love with Poetry. The examples of poems will vary widely and be multi-cultural and from many epochs.
